This is a handy toy/thermometer. Some of the bad reviews on here are from folks that don't read the instructions!! The turtle will beep fast for too hot and slow for too cold. Tips: Give it time to work. You can't expect instant results. When you are done with the bath, shake out the turtle and then blow to air dry the metal part on the bottom, then it won't beep incessantly after.
I am giving 4 stars became am having to buy a new one. The screen has water in it after two years. But I like it so much I'm buying it again.

This is an absolute must have! It seriously kept my baby from having lukewarm baths his whole life! It is so hard to gauge what the right temperature is when you have a new baby! It's stressful! This has been wonderful since my guy was born and has worked great and is still working and my guy is 14 months old now. I only use it to gauge the temp of his bath and I donu2019t get the top part wet if I can help it. I find this helps keep it working better. Of course the top part has gotten wet a time or two, but I dry it and put it aside for the next time. I donu2019t let my guy play in the tub w it. Iu2019m convinced thatu2019s why mine has worked so well for so long.

This thermometer is way off. The first time I used it the temperature read 98 degrees so I placed my son in the bath water thinking it was safe. He started crying. I grabbed the thermometer I was using (a steak thermometer) pre purchase of the turtle to check the water again and the reading was 3 degrees higher. I would not recommend this item at all. If I use it at all it is for my son to play with. Waste of money as far as I am concerned.

Very disappointed. After combing through many reviews, many of which were mixed, we decided to try this thermometer. Dear husband was adamant to try one with an alarm after seeing the hospitals. It was supposed to alarm if too hot or too cold. It did neither of these things. I decided the alarms were not a necessity for me. However, when I went to get my daughter, somehow the water temp rose from 96 when I left to 101 when I returned. She was not happy to sit naked while I tried to remedy the burning water. Now, today, after her 4th bath, it decided to quit working all together. We replaced the battery but we got nothing. What a waste of money!

I purchased this product to use for both of my children (ages 2 and 10 mos at the time). The thermometer itself is very cute, appears sturdy and well-built, and quickly gives out a temperature reading and even beeps if the water is too hot or too cold. However I am rating it so low because the thermometer stopped working after about 3 weeks of

Any item like this is no substitute for adult supervision... That being said, I am very satisfied that I bought this item (for $8.24), would buy it again if mine broke for some reason, and would happily recommend it as a gift. I agree with all the listed product features but I reordered them based on my priorities:
1. Alerts you with an audible alarm if the water is too hot (>100.4 F / 38 C) or if the water is too cold (2. Reads bath temperature and updates the digital display (in F and C) every 2 seconds (although rapidly updates, remember to account for a gradient from a running faucet)
3. Makes a fun floating toy as well (green smiling turtle on one side and the flip side blue dotted mound can be an

At first I thought (hoped) I had a defective model that didn't have an off switch. I couldn't believe one would purposefully make a thermometer that beeped for MINUTES after you took it out of the water, with no switch to turn it off. I was so annoyed with it I quit using it. Until I figured out that if you vigorously shake all the water out of the base (where the thermometer is located) as soon as you remove it from the water, it will not beep. Since the beeping occurs (nonstop) if the temperature of the water is not appropriate for a child to bath in, removing it from a nice warm bath will cause the water trapped inside of it begin to cool and so it will beep until the air dries it off. But if you shake it dry as soon as you take it out of the water, this can be avoided.

This is a really cute thermometer that has made bathtime a whole lot easier at our house. No more guessing or sampling the water with a kitchen thermometer. This is very fast, accurate, and our son loves to play with it. Automatically turns on/off based on water contact, and toggles between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
